My recent work incorporates images of people in the process of leaping, falling, waiting, and diving. The arrested figure expresses the condition of suspension between momentary states of change. These manifestations of a threshold or liminal moment, anticipate the disquietude and uncertain outcome that often accompanies transformation, liberation, release, and separation. Describing these states of being have become a way to explore the paradoxes between the real and the uncanny.
When I am involved with my art making, I feel that I am entering a territory that allows passage through ideas that are not easily attained through verbal expression. Yet, I paint as a way of communication, of describing, sometimes narrating, informing, challenging, diving into the complexity of being a human being in a complicated world, but I also hope that the viewer will participate and share the quiet noise of existence.
